Regina is a compact city. Roughly 145 square kilometres holding about 230,000 people, which means getting across it after a storm is not much of a trip. That matters more than it sounds like it should. When a hail cell goes through in July, the homeowners waiting three weeks on an out-of-town crew are the ones still waiting when the shingles start letting water through.

Emerald Park, SK (the R.M. of Edenwold No. 158). Emerald Park is nine kilometres east of Regina, founded in 1984 and grown from 159 people to more than 1,500.
White City, SK (Saskatchewan). White City sits where Highway 48 meets the Trans-Canada, a commuter town that more than doubled between 2011 and 2021.
Pilot Butte, SK (the R.M. of Edenwold No. 158). Pilot Butte grew up around a flat-topped hill the Cree called Otasawapiwin, his lookout.
Balgonie, SK (the R.M. of Edenwold No. 158). Balgonie is 25 kilometres east of Regina, named for a castle in Scotland and built along the rail line since 1882.
Lumsden, SK (Saskatchewan). Lumsden is down in the Qu'Appelle Valley, 31 kilometres northwest of Regina, incorporated as a village in 1899.
Regina Beach, SK (Saskatchewan). Regina Beach runs along the south shore of Last Mountain Lake on Highway 54.
Moose Jaw, SK (Saskatchewan). Moose Jaw is 77 kilometres west of Regina at the confluence of the Moose Jaw River and Thunder Creek.

What Roofs Deal With Around Here
Roofing in this part of the province is largely a hail business. Southern Saskatchewan sits under one of the more active hail corridors on the continent and rarely gets through a summer without at least one cell coming down somewhere in the area. Whether it hits your street is luck. Whether anybody documents it before the claim window closes is not.
The other half is cold. Freeze-thaw does the slow damage: water that works its way under a lifted shingle in the afternoon expands when it freezes overnight, and it does that over and over from October through April. Anything marginal in the fall is usually a leak by spring. It is also why ice damming shows up at the eaves every year on houses with warm attics and no useful ventilation.
Why It Matters Who Shows Up
After a big storm, crews turn up in town, work through the season, and leave. Some of them do decent work. The problem shows two winters later when a flashing detail lets go and the number on the invoice does not connect to anybody. We are a Saskatchewan outfit and we are still here in February, which is a different kind of accountability than a phone number with an out-of-province area code.
The Buildings We Work On
The stock around here runs from older city houses with cut-up roofs and a lot of penetrations, through newer subdivisions with long simple planes, out to shops and acreage buildings past the edge of town where there is nothing to slow the wind down. Those want different answers. A long uninterrupted plane on an exposed lot is a good argument for metal. An older roof with four penetrations and two valleys is usually a shingle job where the flashing work is most of the job.

Do you come out after a hail storm?
Yes. When a cell goes through, we get up on roofs in that area and tell people whether there is a claim worth filing.
